Jammu: Under the campaign announced by the Lieutenant Governor to eliminate drug trafficking in the region, Jammu Police has intensified its operations to dismantle drug networks.
Following an attack on police personnel in the border area of Arnia on Sunday night, a joint operation was carried out throughout the night under the leadership of the SDPO RS Pura. Teams from Bishnah and Miran Sahib police stations, along with the Special Operations Group (SOG), continued the कार्रवाई (operation) into the early hours.
During the crackdown, police arrested the father and wife of notorious drug trafficker Lahu Gujjar, along with two of his associates, dealing a significant blow to the network.
On Sunday night, Arnia police had gone to apprehend drug traffickers Billa Gujjar and Saddam Gujjar in the drug hotspot areas of Chak Tara and a nearby stream in Pasgal village. During the operation, members of the Gujjar community allegedly pelted stones at the police team, forcing authorities to escalate their response.
Subsequently, around 50–60 police personnel launched extensive raids across Gujjar settlements and known drug hotspots, including Bishnah Chak Tara, Sarore Adda, and the Balol Khad area. The operation, led by SDPO Gurmeet Singh and SHO Arnia Dilawar Lakhotra, continued from 10 PM to 7 AM.
A major breakthrough came during a raid in Sarore Adda, where police arrested Bashir (father of Gulzar Ahmed alias Lahu Gujjar), Roshi Bibi (wife of Gulzar Ahmed), along with Manna Bibi and Shamdin.
Police also conducted raids at several other locations; however, many traffickers managed to flee their hideouts. Authorities are continuing search operations using informants and digital surveillance.
Meanwhile, Billa Gujjar, a key (accused) in the attack on Arnia police, has reportedly been arrested, though official confirmation is still awaited.
